When Employment Hero acquired Canadian HR platform Humi in January for $100 million, CEO Ben Thompson spoke about aligned values and a seamless integration. Four months on, that vision has collapsed under the weight of reality.
The cultural fallout at Humi goes beyond typical post-acquisition turbulence — it offers a revealing window into Employment Hero’s ongoing workplace challenges and the company’s failure to address them.
According to current and former employees, instead of addressing concerns, Thompson has continued to rally current staff to post five-star reviews on Glassdoor. These positive reviews often appear in clusters, follow a rough script, and typically end with caveats like “it might not be for everyone”.
Several current and former employees from both Employment Hero and Humi confirmed this practice is regularly discussed at all-hands meetings, where Thompson claims there are external forces trying to bring the company down because they view Employment Hero as a threat.
