BENGALURU: The evolving relationship between humans and autonomous agents is reshaping the job market, according to Arundhati Bhattacharya, the president and CEO of Salesforce – South Asia. She highlighted that while the integration of artificial intelligence may render some skills obsolete, it will also pave the way for new roles such as unstructured engineers and machine learning engineers. Bhattacharya emphasized that this transition, though challenging, will ultimately lead to the creation of jobs that did not previously exist.
Emergence of New Job Roles
As the professional landscape adapts to the rise of AI, new job roles are emerging to meet the demands of this changing environment. Bhattacharya pointed out that positions like prompt engineers and ethics officers are becoming increasingly relevant. She acknowledged that the transition to a more automated workforce may cause discomfort for some workers, as certain skills may no longer be necessary. However, she remains optimistic about the future job market, stating, “There will be some pain in transition. There always is. But at the end of the day, you will find many new jobs being created.” This sentiment reflects a broader trend in the industry, where the nature of work is evolving to incorporate advanced technologies.
Salesforce’s AI Innovations
Salesforce has been at the forefront of AI integration with its autonomous AI application, Agentforce. This platform is designed to support employees and customers by interacting in natural language across various channels. Agentforce not only enhances customer service but also establishes security protocols and knows when to escalate issues to human representatives. Bhattacharya shared her personal experience with Agentforce, noting how it allows her to focus on more meaningful tasks rather than repetitive administrative duties. The AI’s ability to provide objective feedback on communication skills further exemplifies its utility in professional settings.
Impact on Code Development
The integration of AI into coding practices is also noteworthy. Currently, agents are responsible for writing 30% of the code, a figure that is expected to rise to 50% by the end of the year, according to Arun Parameswaran, EVP and MD of sales at Salesforce South Asia. This shift indicates a significant transformation in how software development is approached, with AI playing a crucial role in enhancing efficiency and accuracy. For instance, Agentforce has achieved a remarkable 93% accuracy rate for a European airline client, demonstrating its effectiveness in real-world applications. Additionally, Salesforce’s own helpline has seen 84% of queries resolved by AI agents, leading to a 50% reduction in escalations.
Salesforce’s Commitment to Growth in India
Despite the current macroeconomic challenges, Salesforce remains committed to its growth in India. Parameswaran noted that while clients are adopting a cautious approach, the company continues to invest in the region. Salesforce’s online learning platform, Trailhead, supports this growth by fostering a community of over 3.9 million members in India, including developers and IT leaders. This commitment to education and innovation underscores Salesforce’s strategy to adapt to the evolving market while empowering professionals with the skills needed for the future.
