Business Idea: There is an auto driver in the crowded streets of Mumbai who has left behind big MBA degree holders in the business world. This auto driver neither drove the auto himself nor invested any big capital, but still earned 5 to 8 lakh rupees a month. This is not a dream, but a reality which is also becoming increasingly viral on social media. Lenskart’s Senior Product Manager Rahul Rupani also heard this auto driver’s story and shared it on his LinkedIn account, due to which this story became more discussed.
A real success story from the streets of Mumbai
This story has come from the streets of Mumbai, where every day lakhs of people are engaged in the struggle of their lives. But this auto driver proved that success can be achieved even without a big degree or huge startup funding. With his grounded thinking, hard work and wisdom, he created such a business model, which has made its own identity in the market of crores today. The most special thing is that now this person does not drive the auto himself, but gives work to many people in an organized manner and is running a big business.
This auto driver neither took the help of any mobile app, nor raised money from any big investor. He has achieved this position only on the basis of his wisdom, customer service and trust. Today people see him not just as an auto driver, but as a successful entrepreneur and an example of hope. This story tells that if a person’s intentions are strong, then the means never become an obstacle.
Rahul Rupani’s experience which became a lesson
Lenskart’s Senior Product Manager Rahul Rupani recently shared an experience on his LinkedIn, which forced many people to think. This incident happened outside the US Consulate in Mumbai, where Rahul had reached for his visa appointment. Before going inside, he was told that carrying bags inside is prohibited and there was no locker or storage facility outside. In such a situation, the problem was increasing when an auto driver standing nearby came and said, “Sir, give me the bag, I will keep it safe. It is for daily use, the charge is Rs 1,000.”
At first glance, this may have seemed like a minor thing, but Rahul immediately understood that this is not a simple service, but a big business model. Every day hundreds of people face this problem outside the consulate and this auto driver has identified this need and started a unique service. No digital app, no big shop, just a business of trust.
Big business, big earnings
The earnings of this auto driver can be estimated from the fact that if he keeps 20 to 30 bags daily and charges Rs 1,000 for each bag, then his daily earnings range from 20 to 30 thousand rupees. This means that his income easily ranges between 5 to 8 lakh rupees in a month. He is running a big business on his own, without any office or app.
This person is solving a problem with just his wisdom, which had become a big problem for everyone. His initiative has won everyone’s heart on social media by becoming an example of ‘local genius’. This story teaches us that success is not achieved by high education or corporate job, but by recognizing the opportunity and working on it by believing in it.
True entrepreneurship is not found in books
This auto driver outside the US Visa Center in Mumbai has come up with a business model, which Lenskart’s Rahul Rupani has described as a ‘master solution to a hyper-specific problem’. Carrying bags inside the visa center is prohibited, but there is no locker outside. This auto driver contacted the local police and started using the nearby locker. Customers think that their bags are kept in the auto, but in reality they are kept in the locker in a safe and systematic manner.
Though the charge of Rs 1,000 per bag may seem a bit high as usually the locker fee is Rs 50 to Rs 100, yet this business model is being run by understanding the need of the people and with trust. This is the real entrepreneurship – where a person understands the problem, strengthens the trust and solves it.
