Can advisers ignore client emails on holiday?

What happens to an adviser when they’re away on holiday? Is an out of office message strong enough to serve as a shield against outrageous client requests? Or is it a piece of showmanship that does little to disguise the fact that, although out of a physical office, they remain tapped into their work? To OOO or not to OOO?

As advisers prime themselves for summer holidays, more than a few will wonder if they’re really getting away from work at all. Money concerns don’t sleep, and when a client’s financial health is on the line, they’re unlikely to let their advisers top up their tan before seeking a fix. So is it worth putting an OOO on at all?

Nathan Harris, a partner at Bournemouth advice firm Strategic Solutions, spoke to Citywire New Model Adviser en route to St Lucia.
