Centralized job portal goes live: IowaWORKS aims to boost employment | Top Stories

DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa has launched a new unemployment system on iowaworks.gov, offering a centralized platform for filing claims and finding employment.

The updated system replaces a decades-old setup that required multiple websites. Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) reports that over 3,500 claims were successfully filed by Tuesday noon.

IWD has warned of longer wait times on its helpline due to high call volumes. However, resources were provided to help claimants and employers transition to the new system, and those unable to file during a recent downtime can now do so retroactively.

IWD anticipates a transition period as users adapt but expects improved workforce outcomes with the streamlined process.
