The state pension has been paid at different times for some people
Some state pensioners have woken up to see surprise payments in their bank accounts. The DWP has issued state pension payments early to some people today, Friday, May 23.
The cash boost in bank accounts may come as a surprise to some pensioners.
The money has been paid out early to those whose next payment date was due to fall on bank holiday Monday, May 26.

As the DWP doesn’t pay out money on bank holidays, it is instead brining forward payments to the nearest working day which is today.
Weekly pension payments are worth up to £230 for those on the new state pension.
The early payments will only affect those who were due to get their money on Monday. Everyone else will receive their cash as usual.
Some people on DWP benefits like Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payments (PIP) will also get money early.
Those getting money early have been reminded of the importance of making it go further, until their next payment date.

Fiona Peake, personal finance expert at Ocean Finance, said: “Getting your money on Friday instead of the Monday might feel like a win going into the long weekend, but it means you’ll have three extra days to stretch it.
“That can throw your budget out, especially if you’re living week to week.
“It’s not always easy to hold back spending when your account’s just been topped up but blowing through your benefit early could leave you short when it really matters.”
The DWP says: “If your payment date is on a weekend or a bank holiday you’ll usually be paid on the working day before.”
