Columbia County employment up during March | Business

Columbia County’s unemployment rate (not seasonally adjusted) is at 4.0 percent for March 2025, down from 4.7 percent in February, according to a preliminary county by county report released this past week by the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services.

According to the report, for March Columbia County had a labor force of 8,944 persons with 8,588 employed and 356 unemployed. This compares to February’s labor force of 8,935 with 8,511 employed and 424 unemployed.

In March 2024, Columbia County had a labor force of 8,891 people with 8,545 employed and 346 unemployed, for a jobless rate of 3.9 percent.

Arkansas’ unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) currently stands at 3.7 percent for March, up from 3.6 percent in February. The ADWS report stated that for March, Arkansas had a labor force of 1,421,038 persons with 1,368,961 employed and 52,077 unemployed. This compares to February’s labor force of 1,420,665 with 1,369,117 employed and 51,548 unemployed.

The United States’ unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) is currently recorded at 4.2 percent for March, up from 4.1 percent in February. According to the report, for March the U.S. had a labor force of 170,591,000 with 163,508,000 employed and 7,083,000 unemployed. This compares to February’s labor force of 170,359,000 with 163,307,000 employed and 7,052,000 unemployed.

Of the seven neighboring Southwest Arkansas counties surveyed, all showed a decrease in the unemployment rate from February to March.

Calhoun County’s unemployment rate is at 4.0 percent for March, down from 4.5 percent in February.

Hempstead County’s unemployment rate is at 3.8 percent for March, down from 4.3 percent in February.

Lafayette County’s unemployment rate is at 5.6 percent for March, down from 6.3 percent in February.

Miller County’s unemployment rate is at 4.3 percent for March, down from 4.7 percent in February.

Nevada County’s unemployment rate is at 5.1 percent for March, down from 5.7 percent in February.

Ouachita County’s unemployment rate is at 4.5 percent for March, down from 5.0 percent in February.
