Croatian Employment Rate Continues to Grow

May the 9th, 2025 – The Croatian employment rate is continuing to grow, as is typical of the seasonal economic nature of the country on the run up to the tourist season.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, according to the first data released from the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute, on April the 30th this year, 1,742,312 insured persons were registered in total. That is three percent, or 50,746 more registered persons than on the last day of the same month last year. The data indicates an increase in the Croatian employment rate, which is particularly visible across the construction sector.

Compared to the numbers recorded back at the end of April 2023, there are 6.26 percent, or 102,614 more insured persons registered now. A very encouraging increase of 8.9 percent (growth of 142,802 insured persons) is visible compared to the end of April 2022.

Looking at the growth of the Croatian employment rate by economic activity, the largest number of insured persons recorded at the end of April this year was in wholesale and retail trade. This is followed by the motor vehicle and motorcycle repair sector (255,057), the manufacturing industry (250,511), construction (155,231) and the education sector (131,991).

Compared to the end of April last year, the largest increase in the number of insured persons can be seen in construction (9,053) and healthcare, as well as social welfare activities (6,774). These sectors are immediately followed by public administration and defence, as well as compulsory social insurance (5,193). The growth in the number of insured persons is also clearly visible in wholesale and retail trade and in the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (4,603). Such data indicates that the need for labour has increased the most in these activities.

If these figures are compared with those from back in April 2023, as many as 20,862 more insured persons were registered in construction by the end of April this year, and 24,951 more than were recorded in 2022. There are encouraging numbers of those registered with the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute in the trade sector: 11,652 more than in 2023 and 13,164 more than in 2022, as well as in the field of healthcare and social welfare, 9,446 more than in 2023 and 8,480 more than in 2022.
