Following the sharp fluctuations in April, the German recovered paper market calmed down significantly in May. Supply and demand are currently at a low level, but are largely in balance.
Prices are stable, particularly for ordinary grades.
The highest price spikes from April have now largely disappeared.
On the supply side, collection volumes remain low – partly due to the economic downturn, including lower printing and packaging volumes.
Additional production capacity in the paper industry in Europe and logistical restrictions around the May and June public holidays are further stabilising the market situation.
For the summer months, many market players expect a moderate decline in waste paper prices for bulk grades. However, an abrupt drop in prices is considered unlikely.
The medium-term outlook remains difficult to predict due to economic and geopolitical uncertainties.
