‘Devastating’: Fanshawe College to begin cutting 400 jobs in June

What’s going on at Fanshawe College?

Fanshawe College informed staff that it will begin trimming its workforce by 35 per cent, or approximately 400 full-time jobs, in June.

The substantial reduction comes as the London-based college navigates financial challenges driven largely by a sharp decline in international enrolment.

“Folks are fearful, they’re anxious [and] they’re devastated,” Adam Rayfield, president of Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 109, told CBC News London.

“At the end of the day, there’s going to be a chunk of people who are no longer here, and personally, that’s devastating.”

Peter Devlin, president of Fanshawe College, said “all employee areas will be affected” by the restructuring.
