Entertainment industry employment has rebounded after the 2023 Hollywood strikes but only a portion of the job losses has been recovered, according to the latest Otis College Report on the Creative Economy.
Film, TV, and Sound added nearly 15,000 jobs over the past year though only 26% of the jobs lost during the strikes have been recovered, “underscoring the impact of an industry in transition,” the study says.
Overall entertainment employment remains 25% below its 2022 peak according to the report, which also notes that the number of shooting days in Los Angeles County was down 42% in 2024 compared to 2022 amid industry contraction and a post-peak TV slowdown.
“The Film, TV, and Sound sector appears to be settling into a new normal characterized by lower employment and production levels when compared to its pre-strike peak,” the study says.
Last year’s Otis College study reported a 17% drop in entertainment industry employment from April to October 2023 as a result of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, compounded by the ongoing TV contraction.
