The European Commission is set to seek feedback to alleviate the regulatory challenges faced by startups in adhering to European Union’s artificial intelligence rules. According to a report by Reuters, the Commission’s initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce bureaucratic hurdles that have been a concern for businesses across the continent.
The AI Continent Action Plan, as revealed in the document, suggests that there is potential to reduce compliance burdens associated with the AI Act, especially for smaller innovators. This move is intended to streamline the application of the AI Act and is based on initial learnings from its current implementation phase. The EU tech chief, Henna Virkkunen, is scheduled to present these measures on Wednesday.
Enacted last year, the AI Act represents a comprehensive regulatory framework that imposes stringent transparency obligations on high-risk AI systems, while offering lighter requirements for general-purpose AI models. This contrasts with the United States’ approach of voluntary compliance and China’s regulatory focus on maintaining social stability and state control.
