European sustainability startups more likely engage with IP and attract more funding

The analysed sample consists of companies in the sustainability sector which comprises companies “concerned with the creation of manufactured products through economically-sound processes that minimize negative environmental impacts while conserving energy and natural resources”. It comprises such subsectors as biofuel, biomass energy, carbon capture, energy efficiency, environmental engineering, geothermal energy, green building, green consumer goods, pollution control, recycling, renewable energy, solar, waste management or wind energy.

The analysis is based on data compiled for the study Patents, trade marks and startup finance: Funding and exit performance of European startups published by the EPO and EUIPO in October 2023
