A global logistics company with a heavy presence in the Lehigh Valley and surrounding area is closing a warehouse in New Jersey.
The GEODIS distribution center in Monroe Township will shutter in July of this year, a company spokesperson confirmed.
According to a WARN notice filed with New Jersey’s Department of Labor, 334 workers will be impacted by the closure. The company spokesperson released a statement via email:
“We have proactively communicated to all impacted employees and will make every effort to assist these individuals in their transition to new job opportunities. We are deeply grateful for the continued support of the people and leadership of the Monroe Township area.”
The spokesperson attributed the closure to “a key customer moving operations to a GEODIS facility in Eastern Pennsylvania.”
The spokesperson said the name of that company can’t be disclosed because of NDAs (non-disclosure agreements). It’s also not clear which warehouse in Pennsylvania will be the recipient of the relocated operations.
GEODIS operates two warehouses in Upper Macungie Township. It also has operations in Allen Township, Weisenberg Township, and Bethlehem Township.
In 2023, GEODIS laid off 107 people at the Weisenberg Township location, which the company identifies as its Kutztown warehouse.
Last year, GEODIS announced plans to lay off 71 workers at its facility in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
According to its website, GEODIS operates more than 100 million square feet of warehouse space at 1,000-plus locations around the world. It provides transportation, warehousing, logistics, and supply chain services. Its head office is located in France.
