Gujarat State Employment Guarantee Council (SEGC) on Friday tabled its report for the year 2023-24 before Gujarat Assembly. In the report, the Council presented key highlights of its work for the financial year 2023-24.
This was the first report of the Council tabled before the Assembly ever since its formation in 2012. Rural Development Minister Raghavji Patel tabled the report before the Assembly.
As reported by The Indian Express, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Gujarat Assembly had, in its recent report, taken note of the fact that the SEGC had not filed a single annual report before the House. It also recommended that the Rural Development Department fix responsibility of the official concerned and take action in this regard.
Under the provisions of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, it is mandatory for the state government to form SEGC, which is meant to supervise the implementation of the rural employment guarantee scheme in the state.
As per the key highlights of the report for the year 2023-24, there were a total 43.28 lakh job-card holders in Gujarat and total 9.95 lakh households were provided employment. It also stated that the total approved labour budget for the year 2023-24 was 500 lakh person days; and against that, a total 492.74 lakh person days (98.55%) were generated under the scheme.
Out of the total 492.74 lakh person days, women contributed 231.55 lakh person days (46.99%).
Scheduled Caste households contributed 26.11 lakh person days (5.30%) and Scheduled Tribe households contributed 231.30 lakh person days (46.94%).

As per the report, the total wage expenditure, material expenditure and administrative expenditure under the scheme for the year was Rs 1,131 crore, Rs 831 crore and Rs 77.43 crore respectively.
