HyPrSpace Selected as Winner of the European Commission Pilot Project on Mobile and Responsive Launch Systems

HyPrSpace announces that the consortium in which it participates has been selected by the European Commission under the “Mobile Responsive Launch Systems” pilot project. This programme is led by the Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space (DG DEFIS), in connection with the EU Space Strategy for Security and Defence (EUSSSD), with the support of the European Parliament.

Following a demanding selection process, the consortium ranked first and was selected as one of the three winning studies among ten candidates. The project aims to strengthen European strategic autonomy in access to space by structuring responsive and mobile space launch capabilities.

Coordinated by PwC, the consortium brings together the full technological and industrial value chain required to develop a responsive launch capability. It includes Andøya Spaceport, Argotec, Atlantic Spaceport Consortium, IDS Corporation, Arctic Space, as well as HyPrSpace, acting as a launch services provider.

A strategic project to strengthen European space sovereignty

Launched in July 2025, the “Mobile Responsive Launch Systems” pilot project aims to explore and assess concepts for mobile and responsive space launch systems capable of rapidly placing satellites into orbit.

In a rapidly evolving international context marked by rising geopolitical tensions, an increasing number of crises, and growing dependence on space infrastructure, Europe
must be able to rely on sovereign, flexible, and responsive access to orbit in order to maintain its critical services and respond effectively in emergency situations.

The European Commission will fund this study to identify needs, propose technical and organisational solutions, and define a credible roadmap towards operational services.

As part of this project, the consortium is tasked with developing operational, technological, and industrial responses to Europe’s challenges in responsive space launch, from needs analysis through to the definition of credible development pathways.

Within the consortium, HyPrSpace acts as a launch services provider, drawing on its technological and industrial expertise. Its vision is based on flexible, sovereign, and resilient access to space, relying on a patented hybrid technology that is intrinsically dual-use and suited to both civilian applications and defence requirements.

“Rapid and sovereign access to space has become a major strategic issue for Europe. This project fully illustrates the dual-use nature of our technologies, which are capable of addressing both civilian uses and defence needs. Being selected by the European Commission confirms the relevance of our approach and our ability to contribute concretely to European strategic autonomy,” emphasises Sylvain Bataillard, co-founder of HyPrSpace.

Through this project, HyPrSpace and all consortium partners intend to actively contribute to European reflections on next-generation launch capabilities, in support of the security, resilience, and space competitiveness of the European Union.

About HyPrSpace

A French industrial company, HyPrSpace markets suborbital and orbital launch services through a range of launch vehicles powered by a patented hybrid propulsion technology. This breakthrough innovation, intrinsically dual-use, provides a concrete response to Europe’s space ambitions as well as its defence challenges, through sovereign, simpler, and more competitive solutions. The technology has been successfully tested at full scale during three test campaigns at the DGA Essais de missiles facilities in Gironde. The first launch is scheduled for late 2026 from facilities in mainland France, marking a historic first in the French space endeavour.
