Ato Forson meets Plastic Manufacturers Association of Ghana
The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has assured manufacturers of the government’s move to create a production-oriented economy.
The minister acknowledged the challenges local manufacturers are saddled with in their production value chain.
This comes after he met with the leadership of the Plastic Manufacturers Association of Ghana.
The move is part of efforts to stimulate domestic manufacturing, create jobs, and protect local industries.
He noted that they raised key concerns about taxation, export challenges, the abuse of import exemptions, and the dumping of low-quality plastic products on our market.
Ato Forson said, “Let me be clear: I will champion a policy to ensure products that can be produced locally are not imported. We must protect Ghanaian industries, create jobs, and add value to what we make right here at home.”
He also announced plans to work with the Ghana Revenue Authority to address revenue leakages at the ports.
“I also assured them that the government is taking bold steps to stabilise the economy, bring down inflation, and strengthen the cedi, because these directly impact port charges and the cost of doing business.
“We will work closely with the Ghana Revenue Authority to seal loopholes at the ports. Together, we will build a stronger, self-reliant Ghana,” he added.
