Maskwacis Employment Centre Spring Job Fair coming up

All job seekers are welcome to attend the fair and check out the opportunities on offer

Attention Central Alberta: It’s time to dust off your resume and iron your best dress shirt.

The Maskwacis Employment Centre (MEC) 2025 Spring Job Fair is coming to the Howard Buffalo Memorial Centre from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 20.

A week before the event, there were 77 confirmed registrants with room for a few more.

“There’s a wide range of different vendors coming,” said MEC executive director Lacey Buffalo, noting there will be a mix of employers, service providers and educational institutions.

“Aside from our very loyal vendors who have been at many of our fairs, there’s been some new ones I’m excited to see,” said Buffalo.

Some of the big-name employers participating in the Spring Job Fair include West Fraser, Bravo, Suncor, Horizon North, and many more.

The employment centre promotes their fairs at other job fairs around the province which has enabled them to attract more industry vendors and large employers to attend their events.

Buffalo says the fair continues to grow and they’ve loved the support from the community and industry.

“We have a lot of new industry coming in,” said Buffalo.

“There is some local (employers at the fair) but there’s also lots of outside companies that would hire our off-reserve members or for camp work so there’s lots of training and working opportunities.”

The full list of vendors is posted on the employment centre’s Facebook page.

The MEC holds bi-annual job fairs: one in March and one in October.

“I think it’s always such a need in the community to provide opportunities,” said Buffalo of the positive impact the job fairs have.

The fairs serve to connect people with opportunities they may not have heard of otherwise.

“It also just brings more hope to our people in the community,” she said, adding there’s always positive feedback from attendees and vendors.

To prepare the community members for the fair, the MEC has held resume workshops in all of the Four Nations of Maskwacis as well as in Pigeon Lake.

Buffalo says job seekers should have their “elevator speech” ready – a 30-second pitch of themselves.

“We welcome everybody, not just the Maskwacis community,” said Buffalo.

“We’re not just inclusive for Maskwacis – it’s for everyone.”

Vendors still have time to join the job fair. To register, visit www.maskwacisemployment.ca.
