McDonald’s to house GCC in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: After American tech giants such as Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon, and Meta, it is now the turn of fast-food giant McDonald’s to establish its presence in Hyderabad with its largest global capability centre (GCC) outside the US. The company has already acquired around 2 lakh sq ft of space in RMZ Nexity, located in the heart of Hyderabad’s IT hub of Madhapur, and plans to hire over 2,000 people over the next couple of years, sources said.
The GCC, referred to as the global office for India by the company, is expected to become functional in a month’s time, sources said on a day when McDonald’s chairman & CEO Chris Kempczinski met chief minister Anumula Revanth Reddy. During his meeting, Kempczinski is said to have told the CM that McDonald’s selected Hyderabad over other competing cities such as Bengaluru due to its high-quality talent, superior infrastructure, and quality of living.
Kempczinski was accompanied by McDonald’s Global Business Services (GBS) president Skye Anderson, chief global impact officer Jon Banner, and its newly appointed India GBS head Deshant Kaila.
Apart from the GCC, McDonald’s is also looking at procuring local produce from farmers in the state for national as well as global markets, which the CM pegged as a major win for `Telangana Rising’.
The giant also plans to leverage Telangana as a skilling zone to train resources for McDonald’s centres in India and abroad, the CMO said.
Taking to social media platform X, CM Revanth Reddy said bagging the “massive McDonald’s partnership” was a red-letter day for Telangana as a global investment destination that would lead to several thousands of jobs, and indirect business and work opportunities for youth.
The CM also urged McDonald’s to leverage Telangana’s Young India Skills University (YISU) to get trained manpower not just for its global office but for its restaurant operations across the country as well.
McDonald’s, through their Indian business partner, currently has 38 outlets in Telangana with plans to add three to four new ones every year, including in tier two and three towns. The chief minister offered to source the entire agricultural produce required by McDonald’s from the local farming community, which would also give a big boost to the agricultural economy of the state and augment farmers’ incomes.
