Each year, the City of Mississauga tracks how businesses and jobs are growing across the city.
Mississauga’s growth doesn’t happen by chance. It’s driven by data, planning and people who help power our local economy. One of the ways the City gathers this information is through its annual Employment Survey. Since 2001, the City has conducted an annual employment survey by sending out a team to canvass Mississauga’s businesses. This helps get the most accurate data possible about the City’s business community. The survey captures important data about the number, location, and types of businesses and jobs within Mississauga. The results help inform everything from infrastructure planning to economic strategies, and support the City’s goal to ensure Mississauga is a place where businesses of all sizes can succeed.
2025 Employment Survey
The 2025 Employment Survey is now underway. If you are a business located in Mississauga, you may be contacted during an in-person site visit from now until August, or via phone or email. You can also take the survey online by visiting the Employment Survey webpage. Your input supports local planning, infrastructure, and economic growth. Results from 2025 will be posted on the City’s Planning Data Hub in 2026.
Highlights of the 2024 Employment Survey
Mississauga’s business community is growing, and our City Data Planning Hub tells the story. The City of Mississauga recently released results from the 2024 Employment Survey, offering a close-up look at Mississauga’s local businesses, industries, and jobs.
The 2024 survey collected data from over 24,000 businesses, which represents approximately 88% of all operating businesses in the city. These figures exclude home-based or online businesses. The findings tell us that business and job numbers are steadily on the rise. For example:
- In the past 10 years, Mississauga has added 74,200 jobs.
- In 2024, a total of 501,500 employees worked in Mississauga.
- Mississauga’s Employment Areas and Corporate Centres accounted for almost three quarters of all jobs in the City.
- The manufacturing sector had the largest employee base in Mississauga, with more than 70,000 employees in 2024.
- The health care and social assistance sectors experienced the largest increase in the number of employees since 2014.
- Small businesses are the backbone of the local economy, with 84% of businesses employing fewer than 20 people.
- At the same time, mid-to-larger employers provide most jobs.
