Momentum builds at Ballarat West Employment Zone | News and articles

More companies can now set up shop at Ballarat West Employment Zone (BWEZ), joining almost 20 companies already on site. This includes CHS Broadbent, Kane Transport and Luv-A-Duck.

In a boost to economic growth and jobs in Ballarat, the development has unlocked more than 50 extra hectares of industrial land. Another milestone for the major BWEZ development.

BWEZ is set to become the engine room for job opportunities and regional growth in Ballarat as work progresses on the 20-year project. It transforms more than 400 hectares of Crown land into a major centre for local jobs and businesses.

Backed by the Victorian Government, the completion of Stage 2 civil works has delivered connections to:

  • sewer
  • drainage
  • gas
  • water
  • electrical
  • NBN

These works add an extra 55 hectares of land next to Ballarat Airport, along with internal roadworks.

The milestone builds on 100 hectares already delivered on-site through earlier works. It complements the finished interim Liberator Drive extension – giving businesses easier access to Ballarat airport and the regional supply chain.

Winslow Constructors delivered the stage 2 works following individual competitive tendering processes. It means companies like Field Air and John Valves can set up operations, joining future tenants and companies already on site.

Sales of land at BWEZ and those underway, are expected to create 1,200 jobs at the site and generate up to $171 million in investment.

The Victorian Government announced BWEZ in 2015 as a $30 million joint initiative with the City of Ballarat, which invested $5 million. The Government has since invested more than $45 million to further develop the land for businesses.
