Employment rates in the Moose Jaw–Swift Current region remained relatively steady in April compared to the same time last year.
According to Statistics Canada, the region recorded 52,000 people employed last month out of a labour force of about 55,100, for an employment rate of 59.8 per cent. All statistics are based on a three-month moving average and are not seasonally adjusted.
The area’s unemployment rate was 5.6 per cent, the same rate recorded in April 2023. Last year, the employment rate was 59.1 per cent, with 53,600 in the labour force and 3,000 unemployed.
Provincially, Saskatchewan had approximately 605,500 people employed out of a labour force of 638,700, resulting in an employment rate of 63 per cent — the second-highest in the country behind Alberta, which posted 63.2 per cent. The province’s unemployment rate was 5.2 per cent, with 33,200 unemployed.
In April 2023, Saskatchewan’s labour force was 625,200, with 36,400 unemployed, for an employment rate of 62.9 per cent and an unemployment rate of 5.8 per cent.
