More jobseekers registered with Luxembourg employment office

The number of jobseekers registered with Luxembourg job centre Adem has risen to 18,903, marking a 7.1% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data published on Tuesday.

Jobseekers who have been looking for work for more than a year made up 40% of overall numbers. There were 11,792 jobseekers registered as highly qualified, including those with higher education degrees.

The overall unemployment rate – adjusted for seasonal fluctuations – remained stable at 5.9% in March compared to previous months. But 2,718 residents newly signed up with Adem last month, a number almost identical to March last year (2,731).

The number of individuals receiving full unemployment benefits has increased by 2.7% year-on-year, reaching 10,348. The number of people benefiting from employment support measures remained stable at 4,479 compared to 4,557 people last year.

The sectors most affected by the rise in unemployment included accounting, information technology, culinary production and road transport driving.

Adem data showed that employers opened 3,354 job vacancies in March, marking a 7.1% increase from the previous year.

Despite this increase, the total number of available positions at the end of March stood at 6,821, down 10.2% from March 2024. This decline is most noticeable in the fields of accounting, banking and warehousing.
