For international business students at Minnesota State, navigating college can feel like a solo journey. But thanks to the Global Business Club (GBC), now students have a place to connect and grow with one another.
The club was co-founded by Etsubdink Hasan and Bitania Admassie, both international students who wanted a space that felt more welcoming and supported for students like themselves.
“We started this club because we understood the importance of having a supportive community that fosters academic, professional, and personal growth in a global business environment,” said Hasan, who currently serves as the club president.
The GBC is designed specifically for international students majoring in business. Its mission goes beyond academics, it also shares cultures, brings in guest speakers, and teaches about global trends. According to Hasan, the name “Global Business Club” reflects a broader vision of preparing students for international careers and cross-cultural collaboration.
Students involved in the club gain many valuable experiences, including opportunities to attend events featuring alumni, faculty and local business leaders. The club also hosts workshops, mentorship programs and cultural discussions.
“One of our favorite aspects of the club is the powerful networking opportunities it creates,” Hasan said. “As business students, networking is essential.”
In addition to learning from professionals, members of the GBC also connect among their peers. GBC offers a welcoming environment where students from around the world can relate to one another and support each other’s growth.
In order to join, students must be majoring in business and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. While the club is mainly for international students, any business major interested in global perspectives is welcome to join.
“Our goal is to create a space where students can think globally, whether it’s learning about international trade or connecting with peers from different cultural and business backgrounds,” Hasan said.
The club is currently working to expand its opportunities, such as exciting leadership roles and travel experiences that dive into international markets.
For students like Hasan, the Global Business Club isn’t just a place to network, it’s a community where international students can feel seen and supported.
“We truly believe GBC is a valuable community for international students looking to strengthen their global business mindset,” she said.Students interested in joining or learning more can contact the club at [email protected].
