Nigerian female accountants in Canada can apply for this fully-funded transition training  in Canada hosted by Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association (CIWA).

The association has launched this specialised employment training programme to help immigrant women with backgrounds in accounting or finance transition into Canada’s professional workforce.

 

The program is themed ‘Bridging the Gap for Accountants’ is a comprehensive 12-week, full-time programme that will provide participants with the opportunity to refine their skills and acquire industry-specific knowledge essential for employment.

 

The program will includes individualised labour market assessments, career planning support and job search assistance to ensure that participants are well-prepared for career advancement.

Job outlook and salary scale

 

Labour market projections indicate that demand and supply for accounting and finance roles are expected to be relatively balanced at the national level over the period 2024–2033, according to the Canadian Occupational Projections System by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).

 

As of 2023, Canada’s workforce in accounting and finance stood at approximately 247,300 employees, with 33 percent of workers aged 50 or older, highlighting a significant portion nearing retirement age.

 

Concerning remuneration package for accounting and finance professionals in Canada, they earn an estimated annual salary of $58,594 with an average annual salary of $55,044, according to data from Glassdoor.ca.

 

These figures represent the median pay, calculated using Glassdoor’s proprietary total pay estimate Total model, which incorporates salary data submitted by users.

In addition, participants will receive software training covering industry-standard tools such as QuickBooks, Simply Accounting, Xero, MS Excel, and MS Dynamics, ensuring proficiency in widely used accounting platforms.

 

The programme also incorporates digital skills enhancement, enabling participants to navigate modern workplace technologies with confidence.

 

To facilitate a seamless transition into the Canadian workforce, the programme provides workplace orientation, offering insights into industry expectations, professional conduct, and employment best practices.

 

In addition, participants will benefit from tailored career planning and job search support, equipping them with strategies to secure relevant employment opportunities.

 

The programme also includes an individualised labour market analysis, helping participants develop an actionable career roadmap suited to their qualifications and goals.

 

Programme eligibility 

 

This programme is open to immigrant women with educational backgrounds in accounting or finance.

 

Ideally, applicants should have at least one year of experience gained outside Canada.

 

Eligible candidates must be permanent residents or refugees, currently unemployed or underemployed, and possess a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 7 or higher to ensure effective participation in the training sessions.

 

Additional support offered

 

Recognising the challenges of job transition, the programme offers reimbursement for childcare and transport costs, alleviating financial burdens for participants.

 

There are also future learning grants available, supporting ongoing professional development beyond the programme.

 

Participants will have the opportunity to enhance their networking skills, enabling them to build connections within the industry.
