The Oregon Employment Department is announcing more than $1 billion paid out through the Paid Leave Oregon plan.

Paid Leave Oregon is a benefit for Oregonians providing a portion of their income for qualifying events like childbirth, adoption, or serious illness for themselves or family members.

The OED says more than 150,000 Oregonians have taken advantage of the program since its launch in January 2023, although the program has faced criticism for delays in processing payments.

The program is funded by employer and employee contributions.
