UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. –– Penn State Smeal College of Business alumnus Brian M. Begg was recently appointed to the Center for Global Business Studies (CGBS) Advisory Board.

Begg is senior vice president, treasurer for Wesco International, a $22 billion Fortune 500 provider of business-to-business distribution, logistics services and supply chain solutions with operations in more than 50 countries.

The center’s board members typically meet twice each semester with CGBS Director Terrence Guay to discuss initiatives and strategies to leverage the college’s international business reputation and activities.

“I am very pleased to have Brian become the 15th member of the Center’s advisory board,” Guay said. “Brian’s experience as treasurer for the company’s global operations will be very valuable as the board helps me build Smeal’s international business dimensions.”

Prior to being named treasurer in 2012, Begg served as assistant treasurer of Wesco from 2008.

In his current capacity, Begg is responsible for day-to-day treasury management, banking and rating agency relationships and all capital structure activities of the company and its global subsidiaries. Begg oversees all insurance risk management programs for Wesco and is chairman of its Enterprise Risk Management Committee. He also chairs Wesco’s Benefits Fiduciary Committee, the named fiduciary for the company’s savings and retirement plans.

During his time with Wesco, Begg was responsible for the investor relations from 2018 to 2021 and real estate departments from 2015 to 2020.

Prior to joining Wesco, Begg spent seven years with Strategic Energy LLC, a leading national provider of electricity to commercial and industrial customers. His most recent role there was as vice president of corporate development and finance. Begg began his career at PNC Bank, where he spent approximately six years in the Energy Metals and Mining Group.
