U.S. law firm Cooley has hired David He as a partner in its emerging companies and venture capital practice in Singapore, bringing him over from rival firm Gunderson Dettmer.
With 12 years of experience advising venture capital and private equity funds, startups and technology companies across Asia, Silicon Valley and New York, He has been involved in hundreds of venture-backed transactions involving investors and management teams from different jurisdictions.
He’s practice spans the full lifecycle of emerging companies from pre-seed through pre-IPO stages, as well as traditional and corporate venture capital funds making private investments. His work includes cross-border equity and debt financings, acquisitions, joint ventures and corporate restructurings.
In 2022, He was named as one of the ALB 40 Under 40. Prior to his seven years at Gunderson Dettmer – where he became a partner in 2022 – he also worked at Fenwick & West and Davis Polk & Wardwell.
“David is an excellent addition to our emerging companies and venture capital team and brings a wealth of experience and a strong base of connections in Singapore and across Asia,” said Matthew Bartus, co-chair of Cooley’s emerging companies and venture capital practice and founding partner of the Singapore office, in a statement.
Added Patrick Loofbourrow, Cooley partner and co-chair of the firm’s China corporate practice: “David’s experience will strengthen our capabilities in our growing practice in Singapore and across South and Southeast Asia, as well as more broadly across the Asia region, as we have seen significant client demand across the region.”
Cooley launched its Singapore office in 2020 and now has 15 lawyers there, including seven partners. They include capital markets partner Shashwat Tewary, who joined earlier this year from Sidley Austin.
