Many U.S. retirees on Social Security benefits are due to receive their latest payment this week.

On Wednesday, May 28, the Social Security Administration (SSA) is scheduled to pay out another round of monthly retirement checks.

In addition, the SSA will be issuing Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and survivor benefits.

Who gets a Social Security check on Wednesday, May 28?

Of the U.S.’s nearly 70 million recipients of retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits, most get their check on one of three Wednesdays each month.

Each beneficiary’s designated Wednesday depends on their date of birth.

On May 28, the SSA is to issue payments to recipients whose birthday falls on the 21st to the 31st of each month. This is the last of May’s trio of Wednesday payments, after checks were also distributed on May 14 and May 21.

Social Security’s Wednesday payment schedule in full – May 2025:

  • Born between 1st and 10th: Wednesday, May 14
  • Born between 11th and 20th: Wednesday, May 21
  • Born between 21st and 31st: Wednesday, May 28

Who gets Social Security outside of the three-Wednesdays schedule?

Americans who began claiming retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits before May 1997 are typically paid on the third of each month, regardless of their date of birth.

What’s more, beneficiaries of the Supplemental Security Income program (SSI) – a separate scheme for low-income individuals who are over 65 or have a disability – are normally issued their check on the first of each month.

If you claim both SSI and any of the SSA’s retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits, you generally receive the former on the first and the latter on the third.

However: As June 2025 begins on a Sunday, next month’s SSI payments will be brought forward to the nearest working day, which is Friday, May 30.
