While maternity leave is far from a holiday, it gave these women the breathing space they needed to dream up new ventures

Lisa Nolan Cusack started Pilates teacher training when her daughter was six months old

“Having my small business has been an incredible blessing. It gave me a focus and something to look forward to, helping me stay positive through all the medical struggles,” says Niamh Hogan-Campbell, from Sandymount, Dublin, who founded the Nemo baby bag (www.nemobabybag.com) in January last year, three months into her maternity leave.

“Despite the exhaustion, I’ve always drawn a lot of energy from my small business. It makes me proud that I’ve created a product all from my own imagination.”
