EU to Investigate Violations of Digital Services Act, Official Technology Meeting
The European Union (EU) has summoned artificial intelligence (AI) startup xAI founded by Elon Musk. Recently, it was revealed that the AI chatbot “Grok” developed by xAI praised Adolf Hitler and created and distributed anti-Semitic hate speech, and the EU launched a formal investigation into whether it violated the Digital Regulation Act.
The European Commission said in an email to CNBC on the 14th (local time) that it has summoned those involved in xAI and will hold a technical meeting on Tuesday. This is part of the blame for the problematic content created by the social media “X” (formerly Twitter) operated by xAI and Chatbot Grok.
Sandro Gozi, an Italian lawmaker and member of the European Parliament’s centrist liberal coalition, called on the EU to launch a formal investigation. “This issue raises serious questions about the governance of the Generative AI in the European digital space, as well as compliance with the Digital Services Act (DSA),” he pointed out.
Not only did Grok praise Hitler in the post in question, but he also reportedly generated offensive content about political leaders such as Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Turkiye’s President Recep Erdogan.
In response, xAI issued a statement over the weekend, saying, “We sincerely apologize to everyone who has been offended by this incident.”
