The number of purchases and withdrawals increased by 30% and the amount spent by them by 22%, even though the average amount was €39, €3 less compared to last year.
Among the main origins of tourists, analysing total consumption in Portugal, the Spanish stand out with 18% of transactions and those coming from the United Kingdom with 14%. Next come the French, with 12% of transactions in national territory compared to the same period last year, the Americans with 7% and the Brazilians with 5%.

In a more general view, the number of purchases and withdrawals in Portugal increased by 5% compared to the same period last year, with the average spend being €38. Physical purchases with MB WAY also registered a 32% growth in number, with an average consumption of €21.
With regard to physical purchases in supermarkets, the Portuguese spent an average of €29 during the Easter period, €2 less than the average daily amount spent from the previous weekend until Ash Wednesday. From Thursday to Saturday, before Easter Sunday, there was a 27% increase in grocery shopping on Thursday, 38% on Friday and 47% on Saturday, compared to the daily average between April 12 and 16.
Among the Portuguese who travelled to destinations in Portugal more than 50 km from their cities, Viseu stands out, which registered a 166% increase in physical consumption among Lisbon residents and 47% among Porto residents. Faro also attracted attention, with a 95% increase in operations carried out by Lisbon residents and 62% by Porto residents. In the North, trips between Porto and Bragança resulted in 75% more purchases, while the Porto-Viana do Castelo route saw an increase of 17%.
Portuguese people who chose to travel abroad contributed to an 11% increase in physical purchases and withdrawals outside Portugal. Although the total value of these operations increased by 2% compared to the previous year, the average spend, now at €45, showed a slight drop of €4 compared to Easter 2024. Spain led as the preferred destination, representing 34% of total Portuguese consumption abroad, followed by France (19%), Italy (7%), the Netherlands and Belgium (5%).
On Easter Sunday, the food sector registered an increase in the number and value of transactions compared to the previous year, 5% and 10% respectively. The average value also showed a positive variation, +1€, reaching 31€.
