Eight visually impaired individuals have been offered employment after completing a 45-day residential training programme conducted by Cheshire Homes Coimbatore, in partnership with Help The Blind Foundation. The training focused on computer operations, English communication and mobility skills.
At an event held on Thursday, the trainees received diploma certificates and placement orders. PSG & Sons’ Charities, represented by Managing Trustee L. Gopalakrishnan, offered jobs to all eight participants.
“Our vision is to break down barriers to employment for people with disabilities and the success of our first batch demonstrates that visually impaired individuals can excel at workplace,” said Raviselvan C., Chief Executive Officer, Cheshire Homes Coimbatore
The training programme was supported through corporate social responsibility funding from Lenzing Fibers India. Organisers said applications are open for future batches.
Cheshire Homes Coimbatore also runs a residential facility for persons with mental illness and currently accommodates 40 individuals. A residential physiotherapy programme for persons with paraplegia and spinal cord injuries was also held recently, providing rehabilitation and mobility support.
