Two people have been charged in an apparent employment scam related to an incident in January, according to a Metro Police news release.

The arrests stem from officers’ response to a disturbance call in front of a business in the 3100 block of East Sunset Road on Jan. 30. Numerous people had gathered at the business and told officers they had been victims of a scam, the release stated.

Detectives learned that on Jan. 21, there was a job offer listed online advertising employment for a third-party delivery services. The victims had been instructed to report to the business on Sunset to fill out an application and pay a fee.

Once the money was collected, a future interview date was given. The victims then returned to the business to follow up on the application and learned it had been vacated by the suspects.

Juan Vera, 41, and Fabiola Llanes, 39, had been identified by detectives as suspects in the case, and they were taken into custody in Chicago on Thursday, pending extradition to Las Vegas, police stated.
