Venture capital funding now below pre-pandemic level, says Research England report

There has been a “worrying” decline in the level of early-stage venture capital investment in university spinouts in England, with numbers below those seen before the Covid pandemic, an analysis commissioned by Research England has found.

According to the report, published on 10 June, more than £2.8 billion of VC investment was raised by university spinouts in 2023-24, which the funder said was “significantly higher” than pre-pandemic levels. But Research England warned there are signs that early stage investment has fallen from its 2020-21 peak to levels that are now below those seen before the pandemic.
