VCUK Financial Services is launching a new structured private equity and venture capital arm that will aim for a first closing on a fund targeting $60 million sometime this fall.
This new fund will invest in high-potential European companies, with an emphasis on deeptech and other innovation-driven sectors where technology underpins scalable and sustainable business models.
Roughly 80 percent of the investments that the new vehicle fund will make are initially slated to be venture-backed, the firm tells Venture Capital Journal. But VCUK’s strategy allows the firm to participate in later-stage deals, such as pre-IPO transactions, as well as providing VC debt. The fund plans to invest in 15-20 companies within two years.
VCUK currently has about 20 projects in the pipeline that correspond to the fund’s strategy by profile, business segment and investment stage. The firm declined to name any of its limited partners other than its own parent company.
Unlike investors that focus primarily on financial metrics, VCUK prioritizes investing in companies that already demonstrate a working product, confirmed market demand through customer or investor interest and a technological edge that positions them to reshape industries.
Founded in 2006, the firm’s investment time horizon is typically three to five years, with expected returns of 25-50 percent of IRR.
“Europe is at an inflection point. We view the current cycle as the right time to invest in the region and venture capital,” company representatives said in a statement. “Capital alone is no longer enough. What founders truly need now is smart money paired with deep technical insight. That’s where we come in.”
VCUK’s new fund will primarily focus on pre-seed, seed and Series A rounds but is open to earlier-stage opportunities where strategic customer traction is evident. The fund also allows for participation in a limited number of secondary transactions, giving it flexibility to back strong companies across different stages of maturity.
Among the sectors it prefers to invest in are foodtech, agritech, green energy, health and wellness and edtech, as well as fast-evolving areas such as mobility, fintech, logistics and infrastructure.
Of particular interest are breakthrough technologies with the capacity not only to strengthen existing markets but also to create entirely new industrial niches – areas where European innovation is increasingly competitive on a global scale.
VCUK’s team includes domain experts with backgrounds in quantum processors, data center infrastructure and advanced computing. This expertise enables the firm to assess projects using both financial discipline and technological precision. VCUK is also willing to co-invest alongside other professional investors.
