Founded in 2023 by Kamalnayan Tibrewal, an alumnus of the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, Biokraft Foods claims to be the first mover in India’s nascent cultivated meat sector. It aims to commercialise sustainable, slaughter-free meat products that deliver the taste and experience of conventional meat, while addressing climate concerns, animal welfare issues, and the inefficiencies of traditional meat production.

The startup has adopted a hybrid approach, combining cultivated meat with food-safe ingredients to improve affordability, texture, and scalability. It also claims to have conducted more than 400 consumer trials, reporting positive feedback.

Biokraft has previously secured grants and incubation support from iCREATE, SPTBI, and ICT-NICE.

With the fresh capital, Biokraft plans to strengthen research and development, accelerate product prototyping, and prepare for regulatory approvals as it moves closer to commercialisation. Its target markets include sustainability-conscious consumers, as well as food manufacturers, restaurants, and retailers seeking next-generation protein alternatives. Beyond meat, the startup is also building a pipeline of cultivated seafood and pet food products.

Mihir Joshi, Managing Director, GVFL, said, “Biokraft Foods is at the forefront of a paradigm shift in the protein ecosystem. Their science-led approach to cultivated meat aligns with GVFL’s focus on backing disruptive technologies with societal impact.”

Tibrewal, Founder and CEO, said, “Our mission is to use biotechnology to create sustainable food solutions while addressing climate impact and animal welfare. With GVFL’s support, we are one step closer to bringing real, ethical meat to consumers in India and beyond.”
