Staff at the Ministry of Innovation, Business and Employment’s Wellington office have been asked to work remotely for over a week due to a burst pipe.

MBIE confirmed its Stout Street Wellington office would remain closed after the burst on the second floor men’s bathroom on Sunday.

The affected floor had damage to electrical switches, alongside general water damage.

People were directed to work remotely or at an alternative MBIE office – located in Porirua and Upper Hutt – on Monday and later told this would extend until the third of June.

The manager for workplace safety and security for MBIE David Griffith said a damage assessment was ongoing.

“The safety of our people comes first,” Griffith said.

He said staff should expect further updates throughout the week.
