Lucknow: During his Motion of Thanks address in UP Assembly on Monday, CM Yogi Adityanath hit out at SP for alleged corruption in jobs and education when the party was in power in the state.
The CM claimed that the operations of institutions like the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission and the Subordinate Service Selection Commission were suspect during the SP’s tenure, lacking transparency. In contrast, he said, his government had implemented transparent appointment procedures and was acting against the ‘copy mafia’ involved in examination fraud.
“We have provided over 7.5 lakh government jobs. By promoting MSMEs, more than 2 crore jobs have been generated. Investment proposals amounting to Rs 15 lakh crore have resulted in employment opportunities for 60 lakh youth,” the CM said.
He highlighted various infrastructural development projects undertaken in the state in the past 7 years. In addition to four-lane roads that will connect every district and tehsil of UP, block headquarters are being linked with two-lane roads, he said. Before 2017, only two airports were fully functional in the state, while Gorakhpur and Agra operated partially, the CM said. Now, four international airports are fully operational, along with sixteen domestic airports, with work progressing on six more. The international airport at Jewar, he said, would be operational from this April.
In addition to this, the CM said, an authority has been established at the inland border to boost trade and exports. While this facility currently extends up to Varanasi, plans are underway to expand it from Prayagraj and Ballia to Ayodhya, further strengthening UP’s export capabilities.
In the field of education, Yogi said under the SP tenure, school attendance dropped by 7 lakh students. Since 2017, the government transformed schools under Operation Kayakalp, modernising institutions under the Basic Education Council, he said.
“For the first time, the govt has introduced scholarships for Sanskrit students from the Purva to Acharya levels. This policy was successfully implemented last year. Efforts are also being made at the government level to promote Sanskrit education,” he announced.
He said before 2017, the state faced a severe power crisis, but now uninterrupted electricity supply reaches every corner of the state. In 2017, the state had a green energy capacity of 288 MW which has now reached 2,653 MW.
For farmers, the CM said the govt had started direct purchase, keeping out middlemen. Due to this, food grain production had increased, he claimed, from 22.27 quintals per hectare in 2016-17 to 30.51 quintals in 2023-24.
Addressing improvement in healthcare, he said before 2017, UP had only 17 govt medical colleges but now the govt was establishing a medical college in all 75 districts. “To bring about ease of doing business and increase investment in the state, we brought out 33 sectoral policies and the implementation of a robust single-window system. Over 500 types of NOCs were made available on a single portal to streamline approvals. The Nivesh Sarathi portal was launched to ensure continuous monitoring of MoUs and facilitate online incentives for investors. UP has now been recognised as the Top Achiever State in Ease of Doing Business,” the CM said.
Yogi said per capita income had nearly doubled from Rs 48,520 in 2016-17 to Rs 93,514 in 2023-24.
