AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Employment and the labor force have increased over the last year for workers all across the Texas Panhandle.
While more or our residents start entering the workforce, Workforce Solutions believes understanding market trends are critical to entering the job market.
The labor market updates shows the Amarillo labor force and employment grew by over 3,000 over the past year.
Businesses are successfully recruiting new talent, and there is a larger pool of job seekers.
“I think it’s important that we do everything we can to retain talent in the area. Our next workforce is currently in school right now; we want those folks to stay locally and to contribute to the labor force moving forward,” said Trent Morris, director for Workforce Solutions Panhandle.
Unemployment remains steady at 2.6% percent, up slightly from this time last year.
Workforce Solutions says with the unemployment being so low in our area, competition for skilled jobs remains high.
“They have a really good opportunity to stay local, but that’s going to be really important if we continue growing jobs like we are. We’ve got to have the talent to stay here, to move here, to relocate here. And we think the homegrown talent is the one that’s most likely to stick around and be long-term employees,” said Morris.
Workforce Solutions Panhandle will be holding an Amarillo job fair on April 8 for large-scale recruitment opportunities.
They will soon be releasing the January 2025 data on the Panhandle job market.
