OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington’s unemployment rate for April 2025 remained unchanged at 4.4%, according to the latest figures released by the State Employment Security Department.
The report shows that the biggest sector to see new jobs added was Health Services, which gained 3,900 jobs; Professional and Business Services, which saw a gain of 2,200; and Wholesale Trade saw a gain of 700.
In sectors seeing job losses, non-farm employment decreased by 5,200, and government employment fell by 700 between March and April, 2025.
68,859 people were receiving unemployment benefits in April, representing a fall of 5,829 from March. This was mainly attributed to falls in Agriculture workers, Construction, and Administrative roles.
For March, Kittitas County reported a 4.0% unemployment rate, one of the lowest in the State, whereas Yakima County’s unemployment rate stands at 6.3%.
Only five other counties in the state (Ferry, Grant, Adams, Stevens, and Pend-Oreille) have a higher unemployment rate than Yakima County, while only three counties (Columbia, Whitman, and Asotin) have a lower rate than Kittitas County.
