Over 10,000 young people are expected to participate in this year’s Youth Summer Employment Programme (YSEP).

Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Desmond McKenzie made the announcement at the official launch in Kingston this morning.

This cohort will add to the more than 50,000 youth who have benefited from the initiative since its inception nine years ago.

Mr. McKenzie said the programme will run for 4 weeks.

Participants will receive a weekly salary of $17,000 dollars, up from $16,000.

Minister McKenzie said the compensation reflects the government’s appreciation of the contribution young people continue to make in supporting local communities through their work.
