The European Union is in the final stage of an investigation into the American corporation Google and its parent company Alphabet. Brussels plans to impose a record fine on the tech company for violating European digital markets legislation.

This was reported by the German outlet Handelsblatt.

Brussels accuses the company of promoting its own services in search results in breach of DMA rules.

European officials want to impose a fine whose amount is measured in «three-digit million range».

According to the publication, this penalty would be the largest in history that the European Union has ever imposed for a breach of the new Digital Markets Act (DMA).

The announcement of the fine is scheduled before the start of the summer recess of EU institutions. The final say rests with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Recall that Google presented new AI features for Search at the Google I/O 2026 conference. The company is integrating AI agents, a generative interface, and personalized services based on Gemini 3.5 Flash into Search.
